2017 Registration Information

The Beaufort Yacht Basin Purple Heart Tournament is split into three entry levels based on a minimum donation to qualify for three levels of prizes.

Mission: To raise money and awareness for Wounded Warriors In Action Foundation. WWIA honors, connects, and heals our Purple Heart Heroes through all-expense-paid hunting and fishing opportunities.

Purple Entry Level

  • Minimum Donation: $500 per team
  • 1st Place Prize: $500 cash + $500 Chasin' Tails Outdoors gift certificate
  • 2nd Place Prize: $250 cash + $250 Chasin' Tails Outdoors gift certificate
  • Six tickets to captains dinner on August 4, 2017

Gold Entry Level

  • Minimum Donation: $250 per team
  • 1st Place Prize: $250 cash + $250 Chasin' Tails Outdoors gift certificate
  • 2nd Place Prize: $125 cash + $125 Chasin' Tails Outdoors gift certificate
  • Four tickets to captains dinner on August 4, 2017

Silver Entry Level

  • Minimum Donation: $65 per team
  • 1st Place Prize: $100 cash + Calcutta High Performance Cooler
  • 2nd Place Prize: $65 cash
  • Two tickets to captains dinner on August 4, 2017

2017 Tournament Rules & Eligibility

Eligibility and Registration

  1. Each participating vessel must complete, sign and submit official entry form. Registration form available at www.purplehearttournament.com. Registration forms are also available at Beaufort Yacht Basin.
  2. Tournament donations are nonrefundable and non-transferable regardless of date of cancellation. A list of participants will be maintained by WWIA and BYB. In event of cancellation an alternate day will be decided by tournament committee.
  3. All participants must possess valid fishing license for tournament waters being fished and must abide by all regulations and statutes governing taking of any fish species.
  4. As a condition of participation in the tournament, each participant must execute and agree to release of liability. This release indemnifies sponsors, BYB, WWIA and tournament committee.
  5. Participants must have proper liability insurance for the boat being used in tournament.
  6. As a condition of participation in the tournament each participant releases likeness in all marketing.
  7. Only one team per boat.
  8. Tournament committee reserves right to refuse entry to any individuals who have been disqualified or barred from any tournament for rules violations.
  9. Participants under 18 years of age must have parent or legal guardian on entry form as representative.

Format and Scoring

  1. Fish will be brought to the Official Weigh-in Dock at Beaufort Yacht Basin. The weigh station opens at 12 noon, and closes at 4:00pm on the day of the tournament. Any participants on the Beaufort Yacht Basin property, or docked in the marina by 4:00pm are eligable for weigh-in provided they promptly bring their catch to the weigh station.
  2. This is a multi-species tournament. List of acceptable species: Tuna, Dolphin, Wahoo, King Mackerel, Spanish Mackerel, Weakfish, Spotted Seatrout, Summer Flounder, Southern Flounder, Atlantic Croaker, Spot, Red Drum, Black Drum, Bluefish, Sharks and any other species viable for sale taken legally with proper permits and licensing. Some species at time of tournament may be out of season.
  3. Scoring is based on market value of team's catch. Market value is determined at weigh in and is non-negotiable.
  4. Teams must donate their catch to the BYB Purple Heart Tournament at weigh in, for sale to a fish dealer. All monies generated from the sale of catch will go directly to WWIA.
  5. In case of a tie, standings will be determined by the team with the single heaviest fish.
  6. All boats must sign and acknowledge official trip ticket and fish taken in accordance to law.
  7. Any fish altered after being caught which enhances weight or circumvents tournament, local, state and federal laws shall be immediately disqualified.

Saturday July 29th

  • 6:45pm - Sponsor Dinner: Meet at the Crystal Coast Lady at 600 Front St in Beaufort for a sunset dinner cruise courtesy of Crystal Coast Lady Cruises. Invite only please for our Major, Platinum, and Gold sponsors.

Friday August 4th

  • 7:00 pm - Southern Salt Seafood Restaurant: Check in your team, recieve a bucket of goodies, enjoy a seafood dinner courtsey of Southern Salt Seafood, and a keynote address by a special guest.

Saturday August 5th

  • 12:00 Noon - Beaufort Yacht Basin: Weigh station opens at Beaufort Yacht Basin, 103 Cedar St in Beaufort. Bring fish to be weighed by boat or by car. Please see the Rules & Eligability tab for more information about eligable species.
  • 4:00 pm - Beaufort Yacht Basin: Weigh station closes. If there are participants waiting on-site at 4:00, they will be eligible for weigh-in. Participants not on-site by 4:00 will not be eligible for weigh-in.
  • 4:30 pm - Beaufort Yacht Basin: Awards ceremony.
